If you are considering a call to the Poor Clare Life…..the following practices may be helpful:
  • Invite the Holy Spirit to direct your discernment.
  • Actively participate in the Sunday Liturgy at your parish or Newman Center. Talk to your pastor or parish life director about becoming a lector, eucharistic minister, or music minister.
  • Attend weekday Liturgy as often as possible and reflect on the scripture readings for the day.
  • Participate in the Sacrament of Reconciliation regularly.
  • Develop a daily time of private prayer and spiritual reading and meditation.
  • Take advantage of opportunities for prayer and learning offered in your parish, dioceses or school.
  • Talk with someone you trust about your desire. Ask them to pray with and for you for wisdom and direction. If you do not have a spiritual director seek one out. Sisters or priests that you know may be able to recommend someone.
  • Become familiar with Saint Francis and Saint Clare. You can find lots of good information on the internet. Google: Saint Francis of Assisi, and Saint Clare of Assisi; information may also be available from your library.
  • Explore some “contemplative activities” that might be attractive to you. Examples include: quiet walks, painting or drawing, creative writing, journaling, needlework etc. Reflect on how long periods of silence speak to your heart.
  • Develop your awareness of social issues regarding the poor, world peace, and environmental issues.
  • Volunteer some time to help others in your community.
  • Attend Eucharist or prayer at a contemplative monastery if there is one near you.
