Let the sisters not appropriate anything … instead, as pilgrims and strangers in this world who serve the Lord in poverty and humility, let them confidently send for alms. (The Rule of St. Clare 8:1-2)

Your Poor Clare Sisters thank youIn the tradition of our founders St. Francis and St. Clare of Assisi, we rely on donations to meet our needs. This radical dependence on God and on the goodwill and generosity of others has been a fundamental tenet of Franciscan life since the thirteenth century. Francis and Clare exhorted their followers to live sine proprio, with nothing of their own, in imitation of the Lord Jesus Christ, who, as Francis wrote, “was poor and a stranger and lived on alms — He, the Blessed Virgin, and His disciples” (The Rule of 1221, 9:5). While we perform manual work — distributing altar breads to parishes, making prayer remembrance cards for those who request them, maintaining the retreat house on our grounds, and performing regular housework in the monastery – prayer is our primary ministry and donations our primary support. We are deeply grateful to you for considering a gift of your time, talent, or treasure.

The Franciscan Monastery of St. Clare is a 501(3)(c) nonprofit organization.
Note: our official name is “The Franciscan Monastery of St. Clare.”

Occasionally, we become aware of things that we could really use but that we can’t afford because of other priorities. We know that you understand, because more than likely you’ve been in the same situation at some point!

We keep a “wish list” of these items in case someone has one at home that they don’t need, has access to one at a considerable discount, or is looking to donate something but doesn’t know what we could use.

At the moment, our wishes are:

  • Gift cards in any denomination — especially those from Aldi’s, Amazon, Costco, Publix, Spinx (for gas), or Walmart

If you would like to help with any of the above, please email us at info@poorclaresc.com. Thank you!

God graciously sends us friends who are willing to volunteer their time and talents to support our mission, and we are deeply grateful for their generosity.

Volunteer opportunities include:

  • Receptionist, answering the phone and doors for us for a 2-hour shift (usually once a week, but negotiable)
  • Gardening and yardwork
  • Handyman/handywoman jobs
  • Bulk mail helper

If you are interested in volunteering with us, please contact us at info@poorclaresc.com or call 864-834-8015. We appreciate any amount of time you can give!

We believe in the power of prayer and commit our lives to it. Every day, we spend most of our time praying for the needs of the world and all people in it.

Please join us in praying for the needs of our world; you can do this at home or wherever you are; you are also welcome to join us for Mass, Adoration, and Morning and Evening prayer. (Our Mass schedule is at the bottom of our homepage; for Adoration and Morning and Evening Prayer, please call ahead to confirm times.)

We need your prayers too and would be grateful for your prayers for our vocation and ministries. We also invite your prayers for more vocations to our monastery and to the Poor Clare life.

Let us be partners in prayer. Truly, “we are God’s servants, working together” (1 Cor 3:9). May the Lord bless you!
