Third Fruit: Peace
“Be still and know that I am God” (Psalm 46:10), is a good interpretation of enduring peace. To be still is to rest in the quiet space of one’s heart where nothing or no one penetrates, save God. In our desire to know God, to unite with God, we wait whole-heartedly in this sacred space, and, in the stillness, peace grows as God becomes “enough.”
When God is enough for us, we live differently. The material things that the world holds up on a pedestal become stuff and nonsense. We see and live in a new world of God-breathed possibilities–possibilities of love, compassion and companionship with all. We don’t change our world for God, we live and move and have our being in God, and it is God who ultimately changes the world through us.
We trust in the One who is enough for us, and in our ever-growing union with God, we discover a spiritual security which nothing and no one can take away. It is enduring peace.~
